Which sewing patterns to choose for spring?

With the warm weather approaching, it’s finally time to put away the wool sheets and bring out the lightweight cottons! Here are a few ideas for preparing your spring wardrobe.

A blouse in broderie anglaise

This season, bohemian chic is more in vogue than ever. So don’t hesitate to bring out your laces and, above all, your most beautiful cottons in broderie anglaise, which will give a romantic touch to all your spring blouses and dresses.

Broderie anglaise is an openwork fabric, often made of cotton, whose small holes form floral or abstract motifs. It’s easy to work, but you need to be careful not to place the stitching at the holes.

To sew a blouse in broderie anglaise, you can follow Atelier Brizane’s pattern, which, with its gathered collar and sleeves, is perfectly in line with the bohemian chic trend.

For children, you can follow the Belval blouse pattern, which is very easy to sew.

A skirt with an animal print

Spring means new long, flowing skirts! A true wardrobe staple that can be worn with a t-shirt and sneakers for an all-terrain look.

If you’re in the mood for one of spring’s trends, you can choose a viscose with a large animal print (zebra, python, leopard…) that will give a touch of originality to this very simple garment.

On the pattern side, you can come and sew the Suzie skirt from Fée Main Patrons, a very easy-to-make model that will be accessible to beginners.

The animal print will also appeal to children, who can wear it over a long skirt or smocked dress.

Ruffled clothing

Still in the bohemian chic spirit, we’ll be seeing a lot of dresses and blouses with ruffles this season.

If you’re sewing a garment with ruffles, you can choose a fairly dry fabric, such as cotton, to emphasize the graphic aspect and volumes. For more fluid, drooping ruffles, choose a soft viscose. As for prints, you can choose a floral fabric to accentuate the garment’s romantic side.

To sew a pretty dress, we follow the Topalyne pattern from Comme une fleur, which combines a ball shape at the hem and sleeves decorated with a small flounce. This detail adds a touch of originality to this piece, which you can easily personalize with ruffles or a contrasting belt, for example.

For children, you can sew the Zoé dress from L’enfant roi, which is very easy to assemble.

A steamy jumpsuit

To prepare for spring, we’re also stocking up on light, airy clothes that can be worn with a cardigan and jacket when temperatures are still a little cool.

The Vanilla pattern from Miss Cactus allows you to make a jumpsuit or pants according to your preferences and desires.

For children, you can use our Rigotte pattern to sew pants, or Ikatee’s Marieke pattern for a jumpsuit.

For a garment with a supple fall, make sure you choose a fabric such as viscose or double gauze. If you’re not sure about patterns and colors, why not follow one of this season’s trends? For the summer months, we’ll be seeing many garments in soft, pastel colors. Baby blue, pale yellow, water green…

It's easy to sew flare pants to be on trend this spring.

Flared pants

If you’ve already got a bit of sewing experience and want to start making pants for spring, you can choose flared pants, also known as flare or eph leg pants.

Follow Instinct Couture’s Fauvette pattern, available in adult or children’s versions. A pattern full of details and pretty finishes (side buttons, faux peasant pockets…). It can also be used to make shorts and a tight skirt.

To sew these pants in a springtime version, choose a flowing linen. Or a light gabardine, slightly stretch denim or colored velvet. To match the season’s trends, choose a bright green, light blue or red.
