How to sew a holiday outfit quickly?

For all you latecomers to party outfits, here are a few ideas for a pretty hand-sewn outfit in no time!

A comfortable combination

Comfortable and pretty, the jumpsuit is a great outfit idea for the holidays. Depending on the fabric chosen, it can be worn in a variety of ways, from casual to dressy.

The Miss Cactus pattern allows you to sew a loose-fitting version with an elasticated waistband. It’s a simple, easy-to-sew model, with no zippers or buttonholes. So it can easily be made up at the last minute!

For a dressier look, choose a shiny fabric. For example, a black or off-white sequined cotton double gauze, or a viscose with gold plumetis.

Wear this short-sleeved jumpsuit with a mohair cardigan to complete the outfit.

A quick and easy sewing combination for the holidays

An elegant dress that’s easy to sew

A dress doesn’t have to be complicated to be elegant.

The L’Audacieuse pattern from Vestiaire Éponyme is a very simple straight dress with details that give it its originality: bows on the shoulders and a neckline in the back. This pattern is easy to assemble. You’ll just have to take care of the finishing touches to get a neat result, and take your time when assembling the bows so they fall nicely along the arms.

To sew this piece, you can play it safe by choosing a black cotton or velvet, reminiscent of the famous little black dress. Or opt for a shiny jacquard.

This dress is perfect for parties, and is quick and easy to sew.

A flowing dress tied at the waist

If you’d rather spend the holidays in a flowing dress that gives you more freedom of movement, you can follow the Signac des Patronnes pattern. It’s very easy to sew, since it’s a straight dress, simply marked at the waist by a removable belt.

No zipper, but the pattern includes a buttonhole on one shoulder for a marinière effect. A great way to play with details by adding shiny, colored or gold buttons.

Here again, you can choose a plain viscose and opt for black or a color reminiscent of the festive season. Fir green, deep burgundy or soft yellow. For a more original touch, you may prefer printed viscose with a touch of gloss.

A sequin top, to shine during the holidays with handmade sewings!

A sequin top

Sequins always look great on an outfit! You can use a fairly simple model, like the Zanka top from Comme une fleur, and choose a black jersey covered in sequins for an original top. This piece will give any outfit a festive air, worn with jeans or a black skirt and a pair of tights.

The pattern is simple and presents no particular difficulties. You just need to be careful when sewing the sequins, which can easily break your machine’s needle or get caught on the bobbin. It’s best to use a fine needle (70) that can pierce the sequins. Or, if you’ve got the time, use a scissors or decoud-vite to remove all the sequins on the line you’re going to sew on. And don’t use your usual scissors, as they could get damaged.

For kids, you can use a sweatshirt pattern, like our Livarot, to make a long-sleeved sequin top for the holidays. Beware, however, that sequin fabrics can easily scratch and irritate the skin. You can use bias tape to hide the seams and prevent the sequins from coming into contact with the skin. Or better still, double up on the sweater!

Fast-to-sew long, flowing dresses

A long skirt to shine for the holidays

The long skirt is both easy to sew and easy to match. For a party outfit, you can wear it with a black bodysuit and ankle boots. And you’re done! It’s also a garment that can be reused once the festivities are over.

Pretty Mercerie’s Saol skirt is accessible to beginners: the only difficulty lies in the buttonhole.

To give this piece a festive air, you can sew it with lurex viscose. Or even better: a soft, shiny velvet!
